OfflineIf you make a post and don't get any comments in the first 5 hours, what does that mean? Well, at OJDC it means you've either missed the mark somehow or all your readers are on vacation…at the same time. It's been a while since we did anything "serious" ( which for me means not making a joke out of every single point) on the blog, but today we got back the answers to the interview questions we sent Cheeky Fly Fishing.
I wasn't really that interested in interviewing Cheeky until I read that (what may someday be infamous) blog post running them through the ringer. So I thought, what the heck – let's ask them a few questions maybe they haven't heard before. I'm pretty sure no one's asked them about a line of reels for tenkara rods – so we at least got one original question in there.
But after 5 hours, the only comment is mine…which can mean only one of two things…
That we have a "jackass" reputation that we never intended and our readers only want that one thing from us ( stupid videos).
-or-
That the interest in Cheeky's 15 minutes of fame has come and gone, and we missed the boat on people caring to read about them.
I guess it could mean three things…but I don't know what the third thing is.
Do you?

I'll have a guess at the third thing….
Being around the blogging world for 8 plus years, I've personally noticed that interviews usually don't go over well on a blog unless the person being interviewed is recognized by the readers. More importantly, that your readers have a connection with the person being interviewed. Otherwise, they typically skim through and move along.
It's hard to pull off an interview in a blog that inspires a comment conversation below.
Just saying….

Ummm, I'm not so sure anyone would be interested in anything I have to say, but you are on the right track about interviewing people that sort of run in the same circles.
Keep the questions off the wall like you did in the Cheeky interview and you'll be a pro at it in no time—with reader interaction ~

OfflineI think it can be done. Drew Price interviews someone influencial to him every week at http://dponthefly.blogspot.com/ . I really enjoy it and I enjoyed yours but I got to it after you already made a response. I can never determine what others are going to think, I just post what is interesting to me.

OfflineBut you have to hope it's interesting to others, right? because I mean, otherwise you'd just think it.
Tonight I finally listened to one of the most popular podcasts around. I don't want to name it, but let's just say I thought it was about as boring a thing as you could get. Of course, then that's me – I'm sure some folks love it. But my target audience with anything is obviously going to be folks that think wacky, "out there" stuff is funny. Not folks that like to watch 60 Minutes while sipping a nice hot tea.
we don't do nice. hot. tea.
We do Mountain Dew and three tons of Pop-Rocks! But you're right man..in the end…it's what you think is cool that you'll be the most passionate about, too.

OfflineCorrect, I know you are trying to entertain the masses and I completely respect that! I would love to click on the outdoor network on tv and see your smiling face gleeming back at me. I have no idea what is interesting so I am not the one to be the critic. But I do enjoy your stuff cause I am far from normal! You do cater to your market but the hard thing is to get your message out to a HUGE audience that is wanting to hear it. I do love the fact you have not turned to what the average reader wants and did what you want. We are a niche group but their are TONS of others out there that would enjoy it as well, but again it is how can you reach them.. Now back to my Moutain Dew and Pop Rocks

OfflineThanks Dustin. It's really nice to hear that I'm not the only one that's insane.
LOLOLOL
Hey, btw – if I told you I found a way to make "blood" for hoppers out of two very common materials, would you be interested in the secret? ( I don't know if hopper blood is this red or whatever, but?!?!?!?
