Blogger Tour 2012 Essay Contest

Who’s ready to fish the storied waters of Yellowstone National Park this summer?

Here’s your chance!

Trout Unlimited, Simms, the Yellowstone Park Foundation and the Outdoor Blogger Network have come together to bring you the 2nd Annual Blogger Tour opportunity. A blog-writing contest that will bring two lucky bloggers along for three days of fishing for wild and native trout inside the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park.

The Blogger Tour for 2012 will focus on invasive lake trout in Yellowstone Lake and the park’s progressive native fish recovery plan—the two winning bloggers could get the opportunity to be aboard a commercial-grade netting boat as contractors pull invasive lake trout from the depths of America’s most iconic body of fresh water.

The two winning Bloggers will  also get the opportunity to fish for native Yellowstone cutthroat trout, Arctic grayling and west slope cutthroat trout, as well as brown trout, brook trout and rainbow trout throughout the waters of the world’s first national park. Bloggers will also get to speak to fisheries experts from the National Park Service and hear presentations from NPS experts who are working to recover and restore native trout species within the park’s boundaries. Additionally, they’ll hear from TU volunteers working to raise money for lake trout research in Yellowstone Lake, and from representatives of the Yellowstone Park Foundation, which is launching a major campaign to assist with lake trout removal in Yellowstone Lake.

The Contest Writing Topic: To enter, bloggers should compose blog posts about Yellowstone National Park and the importance of keeping its fish and wildlife populations intact and healthy. These posts can include first-person anecdotal experiences, travelogue-style writing or, if the blogger has never been to Yellowstone, a post about what it might be like to visit the park for the first time.

The post include the following sentence to be considered an official entry:

“This is my submission for the Trout Unlimited, Simms, the Yellowstone Park Foundation and the Outdoor Blogger Network – Blogger Tour 2012 contest.”

All entries must be written and posted between May 14 and May 31, 2012. No regurgitated or reposted material will be considered.

Winners will be announced throughout the day on June 4, 2012.

Wow! What an awesome deal! Trust me folks, it’s well worth the effort to write your heart out for a chance like this! Kudos to TU, OBN, Yellowstone and Simms for making year 2 bigger and better! I can’t wait to read everyone’s entries!!! :)

    • 2

Thanks Owl! I’m excited to read all the entries too, and although you were a grand prize winner last year who got to do the trip, you can still write this year to win any of the top 10 prizes =) Could you use some new Simms boots? A new fly bag perhaps? Book? There’s all sorts of fun up in those prizes ~ Plus….I love your writing so don’t hold out on us now!

Nah, I’m not going to enter this one. I had my turn. :) But I do hope lots of folks enter this one! OBN – you and Joe – do more than just give stuff away and bring us great deals and stuff….you really get people thinking, talking and blogging! Fishing “out west” last year was an awesome gift – someone else’s turn to win now. :)

I mirror Owl’s comments. My experience in Montana, made possible through last year’s TU/OBN contest, was something I’ll always remember. New places, new water, new friends. Absolutely fabulous.

And to top it all, coming and going between Denver and Centennial Valley, we passed through the wonderland that is Yellowstone. Iconic waters and amazing scenery. I envy those who will participate in this adventure. (Dang fine print). Thanks OBN, TU, and now Simms and the Park Foundation for providing the opportunity.

Have at it, bloggers. Let the creativity commence!

Wow, this is a great contest! I’ll definitely be putting something together this week or next and trying to win one of those awesome prizes. Thanks TU, Simms & Outdoor Blogging Network!

  4. 6

This trip is going to be epic… Here’s what I can guarantee: You’ll see the Tetons, you’ll see Yellowstone Lake. You’ll see the Yellowstone Falls. You WILL catch fish. You WILL see elk and bison. You PROBABLY will see moose and bears. You very well could see a wolf.

And, you’ll experience why Yellowstone is so special that it was the first landscape to ever be set aside as a national park. If you win… you’ll have an amazing time… I guarantee it!

  5. 8

Another fantastic opportunity for the OBN bloggers!!! I know what a great adventure it was for last year’s group of winners! Back to the pen and paper… How I love Yellowstone!!

I am hoping to enter, but am not an “established” outdoor blogger. Can you let me know how I can become eligible to enter?
