About The OBN

Mission Statement, and a little bit about Outdoor Blogger Network

BACKGROUND

The idea for the Outdoor Blogger Network was born, appropriately enough, on a riverbank, via a conversation between two Outdoor bloggers.

Joe and Rebecca

Rebecca Garlock – The Outdooress – and Joe Wolf – Flowing Waters – were talking about a myriad of topics and blogging ideas after spending a day fly fishing for trout in Oregon.  It was one of those times when things just clicked.  They shared a vision that we needed a centralized place on the web for the people to find the best Outdoor related blogs.

They also believe that a unified group of Bloggers has a much better chance of being taken seriously by the Outdoor industry as a viable part of the media.  It seemed that the strength of one of them complimented the strength of the other.  The idea gained momentum, they bought the domain, and the Outdoor Blogger Network is the result of that stream side vision.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Outdoor Blogger Network – OBN – was developed with the following goals in mind.  We hope the site keeps us so busy that we rarely have a chance to look back at this page, but it is our intent to always keep these goals as our driving force.

1)   Establish OBN as the primary site on the web for writers and readers of Outdoor related blogs to come and peruse a vast listing of the best Outdoor blogs in existence.

2)   Make OBN a place all Outdoor bloggers want to check in with on a regular basis.  Provide Outdoor products to bloggers to do gear reviews.  Run contests.  Issue challenges to bloggers to write timely and appropriate posts with regard to current issues, legislation, problems, and opportunities.  Keep it fresh and enjoyable for the bloggers.

3)   Offer tips to bloggers on ways to maximize their readership and create an enjoyable blogging experience.

4)   Connect with the Outdoor industry as a viable part of the media.  Establish a catalog of Gear reviews.  Procure and send out gear to be used and reviewed by the OBN bloggers. (See more detail on reviews under the Gear Review tab)

We welcome and encourage feedback as it applies to the site.

You can email us at contact@outdoorbloggernetwork.com and we’ll get back to you asap.

Help us make Outdoor Blogger Network THE place for everyone to come, find the best Outdoor blogs, and enjoy our great outdoors just a little more!

    Hi Joe n Rebecca,
Just curious about something, since starting this bogging thingy I’ve also dabbled into a little writing (and I mean little) upon another blog of mine. It has an outdoory theme (ish) and I was wondering if it would of any interest to the OBN as well as my usual drivel? the blog address is
    http://tailsfromthefish.blogspot.com/
If you think that it may hold some interest for others here then, with your permission, I’ll go ahead and register it here on the OBN. Oh by the way, I know that the last post on it is a while ago but there are two more hopefully being posted this month.
    Regards John (murphyfish)

Nice focus point for the outdoor enthusiast. Makes me wanna blog myself. Now to figure out how and where to start.

    Hi!

I happened upon the network via Snug Harbor Bay when I clicked on the link to learn more about your Goodbye Summer photo prompt! (great idea by the way!). As an outdoors lover there’s definitely lots for me to read in here, it’s wonderful to find so much info in one place!

Here’s a question about submitting a blog to the network: what if it only covers outdoors stuff part of the time? And not just one single aspect of it? On my main blog I write about scuba diving, hiking, conservation among many other random subjects (books, movies, crazy local holidays…) I also keep up another blog (albeit less frequently) with a more focused theme: travelling (a lot of outdoors in there with hikes and dives in random places around the world). Can I join in some how?

In the meantime, I’m off to browse through my photos and try and find my favourite summer shot. It’s been a busy summer, won’t be easy to choose just one! ;)

I would just like to say that this is an “awesome site.” I’ve just started to blog and wanted to share my passion of good clean living, enjoy nature, doing family oriented activities, good eating, and school of hard knocks tips for those that like to read and learn about the great state of North Carolina. We have the beach (OBX) to the mountains (Blue Ridge Parkway), and everything in between.

I will write about gear, festivals, hunting, fishing, and of one of my all time favorites FOOD! I have lots of cool photos as well. You can do anything here from indoor skydiving to flounder gigging. And as always “Have a nice day.”

Hi – Thanks for listing my site. I also wanted to say thanks for pulling this all together as it saves me heaps of networking time and I’m very grateful.
